Camping in Thermen- and Vulkanland Styria
Holidays with more than five stars
Styria is where the mountains meet the south. At one end the Alps; at the other, romantic vineyards and orchards. In between, you’ll find high meadows full of flowers, crystal-clear lakes, deep green forests, white-water streams, fertile valleys and hot springs. Cycling or hiking are perfect ways to get closer to all this nature; and when you have had enough exercise, you can rest and recuperate in one of the region’s many thermal spas.
Styria is full of cultural treasures: in the more than 200 museums, monasteries, castles and stately homes you can discover the region’s rich history. The capital Graz can show you some highlights of that history, with a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and also a vibrant modern scene, as a recent Cultural Capital of Europe (2003).
Eating and drinking is also an area where Styria can spoil you for choice. Game from the hills, fish from the lakes, sausages and smoked meat all feature. Rustic meals from the traditional diet of hardworking country people, and no shortage of high-class restaurants. Pumpkins and wine, apples and cider and a scattering of geniuses making everything from chocolate to vinegar in qualities and flavours you have to experience to believe. All of these make Styria into Austria’s delicatessen.
