From Pischelsdorf to the Kulm

Open
Hiking from Pischelsdorf am Kulm at 975 meters. Also called "Styrian Rigi" because of its panoramic view over eastern Styria to the Pannonian lowlands.
The route begins in the center of the market town of Pischelsdorf and goes up to the Kulm peak at 975 meters above sea level.

Passing the beautiful orchards and vineyards, it goes initially flat, later quite briskly uphill.

At the Kulm summit (also called "Styrian Rigi") you will be fully compensated for our efforts with a magnificent panoramic view over eastern Styria to the Pannonian lowlands.

Before you start your hike, a visit to the Pischelsdorf bell tower, which at 77 meters is the highest church tower in eastern Styria, would be a special experience.

From April to October every 1st and 3rd Sunday at 10:35 a.m. Meeting point at the tower entrance.

More information

ApfelLand is located in the heart of Eastern Styria, approx. 60 km northeast of Graz and approx. 140 km south of Vienna.

Go to Google Maps to calculate your journey.

We start behind the Pischelsdorf parish church and walk past the music school slightly downhill to Römerbad. Here we see the yellow signposts to Kulm/Pischelsdorf. The hiking trail leads at the beginning along a beautifully designed recreation area past a playground and a Kneipp facility.

We keep to the left, past the Kulmland sports facility, partly on gravel roads and subsequently on an asphalt road until we reach a fork in the forest on the left.

On a path through the forest and further along the edge of the forest and meadows we walk through a softly formed landscape, whereby we see our destination, the Kulm, again and again.

We pass through the small village of Romatschachen, turn left at the crossroads and continue directly past the Gasthhof Wachmann.

Immediately after, turn right and walk uphill through meadows and vineyards until you reach a wayside shrine and a crossroads. We keep to the left and pass the Bsuchenschank Schlacher to go immediately left again, almost level or slightly downhill, through the forest. Across a meadow, the path leads directly past a nursery school and then uphill along a road to Siegersdorf.

At a crossroads with a beautifully painted wayside shrine, we keep left and follow the road until we reach a bus shelter or the SAM station HF 7046. Turning left downhill and immediately uphill again, we then see a yellow sign on the right that marks the entrance to the forest. Through a beautiful mixed forest and then across meadows, the trail continues uphill until you see a few houses on the left. Keeping slightly to the right, past a garage, we come to a path at the edge of the forest. At the next crossroads, turn left along the fence and continue through the woods, following the signs. We cross an asphalt road and follow the path through the forest, which is also steeper in places, almost in a line uphill.

Shortly before our destination we reach a crossroads where we turn left and thus come to a turnstile or a fence.

Only a short piece uphill and we have reached the Kulm. 975m. In the summit area we keep left, go through the turnstile south and hike more or less in a line to the former "Ackerwirt" downhill. to take the SAM cab back to the starting point in Pischelsdorf am Kulm.
